learning experiences matter.
There is nothing more gratifying than that “aha moment” learners get when the information they’ve been toiling over finally clicks. After years of managing front-line employees, I realized that this feeling of understanding is the gift I wanted to give the world.
By distilling a training request to identify performance problems, I work as both a developer and consultant to hone in and reinforce learning materials to achieve real performance goals. I use persona mapping techniques to get to know the learner’s motivations, and through a combination of ADDIE, SAM, and AGILE product development, I design engaging learning content to achieve measurable results for the business.
HOLISTIC LEARNING APPROACH
WHAT IS THE PERFORMANCE PROBLEM?
Not only do I create learning experiences that are intriguing and enriching, I act as a consultant to the stakeholder to get to the root of the performance problem. While training and teaching is often a piece of the solution, there are usually many other factors to address to solve the greater learning need. By working with business partners, I create a holistic approach to solve not only the training needs, but also suggest reinforcement ideas to cement the material in the learner’s mind.
LEARNER-CENTRIC DESIGN
DID IT RESONATE WITH THE LEARNER?
No matter how much time and effort go into the design, a learning experience cannot be successful without a clear understanding of the learner. At the beginning of every project, it’s imperative to have a good understanding of the audience, their needs, experiences, demographics. This Persona Map provides a keen insight into the way their mind works, and what motivates them.
ADDIE, SAM & AGILE
what is the design process?
Different learning prompts require different development processes. Incorporating learnings from ADDIE and SAM, as well as AGILE product development, I feel strongly that development does not need to take a linear path. Throughout the design and development process, materials can be created and shared to solve the immediate need while progress can be made toward a more sustainable, completed course.
results-DRIVEN
WAS THE COURSE SUCCESSFUL?
I like to challenge stakeholders to begin thinking about measurement during the initial kickoff meeting. What statistics currently exist? How will we measure success after the learning experience has been implemented? For each learning objective, we need to understand what success looks like before we can begin designing the content.
